Talking to filmmakers at North East Filmmakers' Society
I was invited to speak at North East Filmmakers’ Society about my experience as a filmmaker over the last 20 odd years. I’ve been attending NefSoc for the better half of a decade now, and it is a vital asset to the filmmaking community of North East England; 90% of my filmmaker friends and collaborators started networking at NefSoc.
Shooting CarFest North 2022
Last summer, I was part of the event video team for CarFest North 2022 during my time at Motif Pictures as their resident Swiss Army Knife.I was so worried about getting sunburned, I brought 4 bottles of factor 50, only for it to rain for 3 days! And guess who didn’t bring a jacket? I always bring a jacket now, even if there ain’t a cloud in sight!

Sound Recording Workshop
I recently led a workshop for Newcastle Film Club about sound recording, showing the fundementals of capturing solid dialogue for films AKA "get ya mic close!" I even used an old crutch to demonstrate a DIY boom pole and a sock as a wind...sock! Thank you NFC for the opportunity!

Best Short Screenplay - Finalist
Didn't think I'd be posting about this again but here I am! Very excited to be chosen as a FINALIST in the Golden Script Competition! My short screenplay Candle Dodgers has been placed onto The Golden Script Competition's Golden List! That's top 6 out of over 3000 scripts! Just need a budget now...hint hint producers!

Got some great feedback from the The Golden Script Competition on my short film script 'Candle Dodgers' recently. Thought I'd share a few paragraphs.
Nice to know they actually read it! They mentioned a lot of tiny details I wrote too, so whoever was reading it; they spotted the nuance! A few minor tweaks were advised - I'll get those cleaned up.
Thanks for the feedback and I look forward to the announcements! ...if only I did this well in my GCSEs.

The Sound of: Sixty Seconds
Here's a super cut of the sound design for my film Sixty Seconds that I co-wrote & co-directed for The Film Look.
I handled the entire post-production audio workflow for this micro-budget short including sound design, foley art, sound editing, and the final stereo mix.

Animating My New Film Sound Ident
Creating an animated ident for my Film Sound work was interesting! I need it to be clean and legible (I didn't want anything too grubby or over the top), but it also needed to be animated enough to compliment it with some nice sound design.
After all, this is a sound design ident! I think I struck a decent balance. Really like how it came out!
Directing Backstage

We spent 3 days shooting in a derelict school bathroom with no running water or sunlight. It was wicked haha.

My 2022 Career Sidestep (+ Back to Social Media)
For the last 6 years, I've been running an filmmaking YouTube channel called The Film Look with my friend Robert Carr. We've uploaded over 330 videos, created 6 short films, and have reached over 3 million people online.
It is easily the most intensive education I've experienced; learning about how to run a business, make engaging videos, shoot entertaining shorts, and work with collaborators.
But after seeing the YouTube filmmaking scene no longer favour short film education and instead favour coffee montages & camera spec reviews, it’s time to move on.
My plan going forward is to offer my services as a Writer/Director & Film Sound Artist. I'm looking to get on-set again as a boom operator as well as a post-production sound artist. So if you're reading this and know anyone who needs a sound person on a project (professional OR passion), shoot me an email!
In terms of Writing/Directing, I'm gonna keep writing my first feature screenplay, and knock out a few more short films that I've written too. It's time to turn filmmaking into a fun hobby again - I've missed that part of it.
To wrap up: I'm jumping back on social media after 6 years of avoiding it like the plague for mental health reasons. So my social media profiles will be used strictly as a business portfolio and creative networking tool.
