silencING PROPS, COSTUME & FOOTSTEPS

Production sound is about capturing one simple thing: clean, crisp, audible dialogue.

On-set, everything makes a noise. I mean EVERYTHING!!

As the sound recordist, it’s my job to silence as many things as possible on location. This ranges from; refrigerators, A/C units, and shushing the background actors, to using tricks of the trade to dampen loud sound such as footsteps, prop handling, and scratchy costumes.

Re-recording the footsteps is a lot easier to removing them in post! It’s better to have a recipe of “raw” items to bake the perfect cake.
